A New Alternative

Imagine a space where wellness meets the infectious energy of the Caribbean and Africa, its people, and music. A space where enjoyable activity fuses with education and increased awareness towards community, health, and well-being. Where the rhythms of celebration—dancehall, afrobeats, soca—pulsate with pride and can be felt by everyone present.

This space is ‘Breathe Easy’ Fitness + Wellness, a workout series hosted by PrintbyPrint Group in collaboration with fitness trainers Body by Burnhard and Hurricane GH. Each session features the musical selections of DJ Goodwill. Participants can also learn about holistic well-being in the new ‘Education on Nutrition’ Workshop, led by Nutritional Counselor Keema Sladden.

Our Motivation

We draw our collective inspiration from villages in the Caribbean, Africa, and other non-cosmopolitan regions where people consider exercise to be a natural part of their daily activities: walking for miles, running from place to place, dancing with friends, and performing manual labor.

Our immersive experience allows participants to go at their own pace, without the pressure and self-consciousness associated with most traditional workout settings. This initiative offers an alternative, particularly for parents with time limitations, to get fit on their own terms and receive individual attention from certified fitness instructors.

The Experience

The dynamic instructors deliver dance-fitness workshops that are rooted in Caribbean and African dance. Every session is designed to accommodate each participant’s individual capability and health needs. So, whether this is your first class or you've taken several classes with us before, you’ll get a full, heart-pumping workout. Plus, you’ll learn about the history of each dance and the benefits of each movement as you go.

People of every national origin, body type, level of activity, age, gender, race, and socio-economic status are all welcome to join.

Founder and CEO of PrintbyPrint Group

She was inspired to create the ‘Breathe Easy’ Fitness + Wellness Initiative after developing health issues that increasingly impacted her life. She developed these workout workshops after continuously being told she should try yoga—and then continuously finding that yoga did not suit her personality. So, she set out to create an alternative option with dancers she knew and had previously worked with. She fused her love of dancing with her Caribbean background to create workshops that helped her heal. Now, she is sharing these sessions with others who might benefit from this type of dance-fitness therapy.

Scott "Burnhard" Bernard

ISSA Certified Personal Trainer

Based in NYC, Body by Burnhard is a motivational speaker, coach, and celebrity trainer. After breaking his arm three times during childhood and suffering severe nerve damage, doctors told Bernard that he would never be able to play sports again. With this news, he decided to transform his life and lifestyle through his "Body by Burnhard" positive fitness personality. Bernard loves calisthenics and actively shares his passion and story with the world.

Jeffrey “Hurricane GH” Duffour

ISSA and AFAA Certified Personal Trainer + Owner of Hurricane Fitness

Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, Duffour started his fitness journey in 2012 after being chastised by family and friends for being too skinny. But it was just the motivation he needed to improve his health and confidence. Splitting his time between New York City and Ghana, Hurricane GH is a motivational speaker, coach, and personal trainer. Duffour aims to change the lives of people through healthy lifestyle, dance, and personal fitness.

Keema Sladden

Certified Nutrition Counselor

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, she didn’t have much nutrition education. When she was 18 years old, her body began to reject the food she was consuming. Around the same time, her mother had her first stroke, which motivated Sladden to become a pescatarian and change her lifestyle. Ten years later, while she was pregnant, a nutritionist suggested she go back to eating meat. Wanting to avoid the health issues that her mother experienced, Sladden decided to once again take matters into her own hands. She got her diploma in child nutrition, birthed a healthy baby girl, and began educating other mothers about holistic well-being through diet.

William “Goodwill” Ellis

Artist

Ellis fuses his love of music and art to create visceral experiences for his audiences and clients. With roots in Brooklyn, New York, his musical influences span the globe. Goodwill’s parents were born and raised on the Caribbean island of Barbados before migrating to Brooklyn. He grew up listening to diverse tropical sounds mixed with the complex bass of heavy rhythms. Also enthralled and influenced by Hip-Hop, R&B, and urban dance music, Goodwill immersed himself in music, art, and the culture that accompanied them. Goodwill has hosted and DJ’d a radio show out of DUMBO NYC, as well as spun with some of the best DJs in the business like Rich Medina, Tony Touch, and Funk Master Flex.

All workouts will be held at a dance studio with a live DJ.

INTRO $30 per person

90-minute introduction to ‘Breathe Easy’ Fitness + Wellness workouts with our certified fitness instructors and nutritional counselor.

UPPER BODY $30 per person

45-minute workout focused on building/maintaining upper body strength. Our certified fitness instructors will help you modify based on your fitness level and needs. 15-minute LOOK educational workshop on improving your relationship with food.

LOWER BODY $30 per person

45-minute workout focused on building/maintaining lower body strength. Our certified fitness instructors will help you modify based on your fitness level and needs. 15-minute FEEL educational workshop on improving your relationship with food.

CONDITIONING & CORE BUILDING $30 per person

45-minute workout focused on conditioning the entire body and building/maintaining core strength. Our certified fitness instructors will help you modify based on your fitness level and needs. 15-minute KNOW educational workshop on improving your relationship with food.

Education Program Description

Holistic health coaching is also available. The session is provided through the educational lens of the whole person’s wellness, with an emphasis on how social factors relate to medical, physical, and mental health.

Here’s how the sessions are designed to improve your relationship with food

LOOK

You’ll gain a new understanding of what’s in your food, how to distinguish the differences in ingredients, and what effect they have on the body.

FEEL

You’ll gain a better understanding of the differences in the produce your grocery store carries, and how to pick fruits and vegetables by touch.

KNOW

You’ll be educated about how to shop for items by being more aware of expiration stamps, when items are in season, and how it all affects your physical, medical, and mental health.
